Bulldogs volleyball team also remains undefeated after beating
James Lick in three games
San Jose – The Sobrato High boys and girls cross country teams moved to 4-0 in the Blossom Valley Athletic League West Valley Division with wins over Del Mar and Gunderson on Wednesday at Montgomery Hills Park.
The boys team beat Del Mar 17-37 and earned a win over an incomplete Gunderson squad.
Sophomore Lance Wolfsmith paced the Bulldogs by taking first overall with a time of 16:02 on the 2.74-mile course. Alan Rios was fifth for Sobrato at 16:57, Christian Swanson took sixth at 17:07 and Alex Tolin rounded out the meet’s top-10 with a time of 17:53.
First-place Sobrato now holds a half-game lead over Prospect (3-0). PIoneer (3-1), Del Mar (2-2) and Branham (1-2) round out the league’s top five.
The Bulldogs girls team grabbed seven of the top 10 spots, including the second-through-sixth positions, to stay undefeated in league meets. Sobrato beat Del Mar 15-48 and also beat an incomplete Gunderson team.
Freshman Kendra Higgins was Sobrato’s top finisher. She took second overall in the meet with a time of 19:31. Amber Masoni was third at 20:16, Abby Devaraj took fourth at 20:20, Amanda Conlon was fifth at 20:53 and Melina Silva was sixth at 21:01. Ashley Grose timed in at 21:51 to finish eighth overall and Kayla Sampson was the ninth-place finisher at 22:01.
The Bulldogs now lead Pioneer (3-1) and James Lick (3-1) by a full game and Del Mar is two games back in the standings at 2-2.
Girls volleyball
San Jose – Sobrato ran its record to 6-0 in BVAL West Valley Division play by crushing James Lick in three games.
The Bulldogs gutted out a 25-22 win in the first game and then coasted the rest of the way with 25-9 and 25-13 wins in the next two games to earn the sweep.
Jordyn Hanne and Ariel Mosbrucker each recorded nine kills to lead Sobrato, who will look to run its record to 7-0 when its plays San Jose today at 5pm at Live Oak.
