All four games go down to the wire, but Bulldogs are edged by
visiting Trojans
Morgan Hill – It couldn’t have been much tighter Thursday when Sobrato welcomed Alisal to its gym for the Bulldogs’ home volleyball opener.

The Trojans came away with the win, squeezing past Sobrato 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23.

Sophomore Jared Mamman led the Bulldogs (1-1) with 17 kills. Shawn Thayaril had 32 assists and Bhupinder Ishpuniani had 17 digs and four aces.

“We certainly fought a lot harder in this (match) against Alisal than we were able to last year,” Sobrato co-coach Rosemary Miller said. “I really credit Alisal for the development of its program. They improved over the last year and it was nice to see our boys keep up with them.”

Miller and her husband and co-coach Kevin Miller are most pleased with the amount of court sense and hustle showed by the relatively inexperienced Bulldogs.

Sobrato also showed an ability to come back after falling behind 10-1 in the fourth game.

“They dug their heels in and kept chipping away at the lead,” Rosemary Miller said. “I am so happy. Even though it is a loss, I know we have a young team. In game 4, we put it all together, we had strong serving, great blocking outstanding defense and just great overall smart play. I know we have a long way to go but we are definitely headed in the right direction.”

The Bulldogs have their third straight game against a Tri-County League opponent today at Palma. Game time is 6:30pm.

Sub-varsity: Sobrato showed improvement from its opener, extending Alisal before the Trojans won 25-12, 12-25, 15-9. Ali Aryanpour led the Bulldogs with eight digs and nine aces.
