The Morgan Hill Community Foundation announced Monday that it would have to cancel the Directors’ Ball, A Night in Hollywood, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28.

“We are sincerely grateful to our many sponsors, ticket buyers, committee members and community volunteers for their support and dedication towards this event and for their belief in the Foundation’s mission,” said Dave Reisenauer, foundation board president.

The Directors’ Ball was to be a fundraiser for the foundation’s up-coming grant cycle but, Reisenauer said, not enough tickets had been sold by the weekend to make the event profitable.

The city’s first “dress up” fundraiser, the Mayor’s Ball that opened the Community and Cultural Center in December 2002, earned $56,000 for grants.

“No one anticipated the continuing economic challenges facing our local businesses and residents,” Reisenauer said. The Foundation makes decisions based on sound fiscal practices and takes seriously its role as financial stewards for our donors’ investments. We cannot risk the incredible gains and positive impact the Foundation has already made within the community, for the short-term challenges this difficult situation may cause.”
