Morgan Hill – A San Jose Man died Wednesday afternoon after his motorcycle veered off a country road in Morgan Hill.

Josiah I. Ziegler, 26, died at Regional Medical Center of San Jose from injuries he received in the 5:13pm crash, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Armstrong.

Ziegler was riding a 2002 Honda motorcycle northbound on Uvas Road just south of Croy Road when he approached a curve in the road and apparently could not make the turn, careening off the paved roadway.

Ziegler was thrown from the motorcycle and into a barbed wire fence. Although he was taken by LifeFlight to the hospital, he did not survive the major injuries he received.

A Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office representative said Thursday the exact cause of Ziegler’s death was not available. He was wearing a helmet.

Armstrong said it was not clear how fast Ziegler was driving before the accident or if speed had anything to do with his failure to negotiate the curve.

Although the accident is still under investigation, Armstrong said, it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were involved.

Though Armstrong did not classify that stretch of road as particular dangerous, he did say that there has been “local concern” about the speed of motorcycles, particularly during commute hours and on weekends.
