Six students have joined the black belt ranks of the United Academy of Martial Arts studio.
Joseph Atwell, Megan Lutticken, Claudia Macedo, Christopher McCain, Caitlin Tetherow and Tirion Wray excelled through their six-month countdown that ended at the Britton Middle School Gym on Jan. 18. During the countdown, the six black belt candidates completed a rigorous regimen that included sparring, board breaking and diligent study.
In addition to their personal Tae Kwon Do achievements, all candidates needed to maintain a B average in school, provide guidance to lower-ranking students at the studio and meet the fitness requirements of the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. These six new black belt recipients will now assist the next group of candidates during their countdown.
