Gail Wiselogel pitched four solid innings, and the Sobrato softball team totaled 14 hits in a 14-1 victory in five innings at Gunderson on Wednesday to open Santa Teresa Division play.
Wiselogel struck out two and allowed one run on four hits and no walks. Heather Johnson worked a scoreless fifth inning and doubled along with Heather Sjostedt for the Bulldogs, who exploded for six runs in the first.
Sjostedt went 3 for 3, and Samantha Torres and Kallie Klinger had two hits apiece for Sobrato (4-3 overall).
Baseball
Live Oak beat Silver Creek 8-4 on Wednesday for its first win in the Santa Teresa Division, behind a 3 for 3 effort by John Forestieri and a steady all-around performance by starting pitcher Jakob Conlan.
Forestieri and Conlan doubled and drove in two runs, as the Acorns (3-8, 1-6) ended a seven-game losing streak. Matt Bergantz also doubled, and Kyle Quadros had a triple and two RBIs for Live Oak. Conlan (1-3) struck out four and gave up one earned run on six hits and no walks.
Live Oak hosts Sobrato at 2 p.m. Saturday in their only meeting of 2012.
Boys tennis
Sobrato moved to 7-0 in the West Valley Division with a victory over second-place Oak Grove on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs’ top single, Alex Ferreira, defeated Kim Do 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, and Adrian Quintana and Adarsh Cherra beat Oak Grove’s Adrain Theron and Henry Trang 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles match.
Sobrato increased its lead to three games over the Eagles and Andrew Hill, who are 4-3.
- Also Tuesday, Live Oak notched its first victory in Santa Teresa Division play by beating Branham 6-1 in San Jose.
The Acorns’ Bryan Freitas staged the comeback match of the day, rallying from a 2-4 deficit in the third set to beat talented freshman Emilio Tejada. Freitas, who took the first set 6-4 and lost the second 6-7, hung on by dropping the ball short and lobbing it over Tejada’s head. The 2 1/2-hour match ended with Freitas winning 6-4 in the third to improve to 4-2 this season.
Freshman Milan Le Ruyet earned his sixth victory, and rookie Blake Latos triumphed as well in the No. 4 singles match for Live Oak.
The Acorns’ doubles teams were on fire, as Mike Renteria and Ben Hopwood, Geoff Ivie and Justin Schumate, and Ryan Rupp and Ian Karin completed a sweep.
Live Oak was coming off a 5-2 win over Sobrato in the “El Toro Open.”
