On Senior Day, Lady Bulldogs pound Independence 17-1
MORGAN HILL — Taking out a season’s worth of vexation, the Sobrato softball team on Thursday ended its 2009 campaign with a five-run 17-1 dismantling of Independence.
The Lady Bulldogs totaled 14 hits, including four from sophomore shortstop Nicole Larson. That was ample support for sophomore pitcher Katie Machado, who was backed with big plays by infielders Frankie Kellett, Nicole Kiles, Danielle Clampett and Larson.
The Bulldogs’ seniors Sarina Santiago and Clampett were honored before the game.
“We finished the season on a positive note,” Bulldogs coach Bob Clampett said in a statement. “It was a frustrating season because we were competitive with most of the teams we played against, but we couldn’t finish the games.”
Sobrato finished 3-11 in Santa Teresa Division play.
Larson homered, Clampett drove in two runs, and Kellett added a pair of hits. This came during the same week Larson and Kellett received all-league honors. Larson made the first team for the second straight season, and Kellett was named to the second.
Machado, Larson and Kellett are three of 11 players who will be back next year.
“We will take the positives from this season and build for next season,” Bob Clampett said. “The girls never gave up, and I’m proud of each and every one of them.”
