Bonds convicted of obstruction of justice in steroid scandal

The Sobrato baseball team lost 7-5 to host Leigh on Friday but got a split in their Mount Hamilton Division series last week.

It was the Longhorns’ first win of 2012.

The Bulldogs, now 2-5 overall, moved to within a game of fourth place at 2-4 in the division. They can make up more ground this week against third-place Leland.

Sobrato on Friday was led with a double, single and two RBIs by Casey Conforti. The Bulldogs were coming off a 3-2 victory over Leigh (1-7, 1-5) on Wednesday.

  • Live Oak’s late-inning woes continued in a 7-4 loss at Mount Pleasant on Friday.

The Acorns overcame a 2-0 deficit with two runs in the third and fifth innings, only to watch the Cardinals score five runs in the sixth to sweep the Santa Teresa Division series.

John Forestieri went 2 for 3 with a double and collected his fourth RBI of the season, and Jakob Conlan singled twice for Live Oak (2-8, 0-6), which will try to snap a seven-game slide Wednesday at Silver Creek. Forestieri, a junior, upped his batting average to .370.

Acorns starter Mitch Hickey (1-2) struck out four and was credited with five earned runs on as many hits.
