Under the influence of a controlled substance

Penny Lee Johnson, 48, transient, 12:11 a.m. Tuesday, near Monterey and Bolsa roads for being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine.

Jorge Lopez, 28, of Gilroy, 10:37 p.m. Sunday, near Monterey and Second streets for being under the influence of a controlled substance and probation violation.

Ramiro Guerra Mendoza, 40, of East Palo Alto, 4:42 a.m. Friday, near Chesbro Lake Drive and Oak Glen Avenue in Morgan Hill after deputies were dispatched to a report of a car blocking the road and, after a long search, Mendoza appeared from out of the “thick brush.”

Jason Matthew Contreras, 24, of Gilroy, 2:24 a.m. Thursday, near Princevalle and 10th streets on a warrant and for evading a peace officer and being under the influence of a controlled substance after he ran from police and crashed his motorcycle.

Luis Manuel Cavazos, 34, transient, 2:42 a.m. April 7, near Leavesley and Murray avenues.

Possession of methamphetamine

Juan Manuel Perez, 31, of Los Banos, 3:45 a.m. Monday, a parolee on the 8200 block of Murray Avenue when a bag of methamphetamine dropped from his waistband while deputies were serving a warrant.

Drunk in public

Alberto Rodriguez, 46, of Gilroy, 7:10 a.m. Thursday, on the 10100 block of Dougherty Avenue in Morgan Hill after he walked into a woman’s residence, not knowing who or where he was. He told officers he drank six to eight beers the previous night and was arrested for public drunkenness. Police also determined that Rodriguez was a missing person from Gilroy.

Other sheriff’s incidents

Auto burglary

The window of a 1985 gold Mercedes E190 parked at Gavilan College, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., was broken and a CD player and an iPod were stolen from inside, between 3:25 and 5:15 p.m. Monday.

The window of a 1990 blue Honda Accord parked at Gavilan College, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., was broken and a laptop computer and three guitars were stolen from inside, between 10 and 11:05 a.m. Friday.

The window of a black Honda CRV parked at Gavilan College, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., was broken and a purse or wallet was stolen from inside, between 12:50 and 1:30 p.m. April 6.

Destruction of property

A San Martin woman turned in her pellet rifle to the Sheriff’s Office South County Substation because her small grandchildren were moving in with her.

Identity theft

A Gilroy woman’s social security number was used to access her CalPERS retirement account and set up account security features, about 12:25 p.m. Monday. No funds were removed, however.

Residential burglary

The front door of a residence on the 3100 block of Roop Road was kicked in and a laptop was stolen from inside and two drawers were damaged, between 7 a.m. and 9:05 p.m. April 7.

Theft of license plate

A rear license plate was stolen off a 1990 blue GMC truck parked on the 9600 block of Kern Avenue, between 2 p.m. Dec. 24 and 12 p.m. March 3.
