For several years, the Morgan Hill Rotary Club has given financial support to the Young at Heart Project which brings lively and uplifting musical entertainment to seniors.
The service club’s donation subsidizes approximately 60 live performances at residential care facilities and the Senior Center in Morgan Hill.
Shanna Carlson with The Young at Heart Project recently entertained a group of Morgan Hill Seniors at the Mt. Madonna YMCA Senior Center on Crest Avenue. Shanna’s theme for the day was “Come Rain or Come Shine.” Every song she sang had to do with weather. Besides listening to the music, some of the seniors were dancing in the aisles.
The inspiration for Young at Heart Project came to founder Sean Seman as he was performing an impromptu concert at a rest home. An elderly man, who had not spoken for two years, erupted into song during the performance, much to the amazement of the hospital staff.
Having witnessed first-hand the positive effects of musical performance for seniors, Seman became serious about providing the magic and therapeutic benefits of live professional musical entertainment to enrich the lives of seniors.
Rotary Club President Steve Tate spoke with Roy and Lee Dauberg (aged 96 and 95 respectively) at the Senior Center. These two brothers look forward to the entertainment each month. This is just one of many Community Service projects of the Morgan Hill Rotary Club.
