Why is it, for weeks now I have been reading about crime in the
Police Blotter that happened at the end of March? Shouldn’t that
show up within a week of it happening? It’s April 21 and there has
been no information about April yet. Why the lag time?

“Why is it, for weeks now I have been reading about crime in the Police Blotter that happened at the end of March? Shouldn’t that show up within a week of it happening? It’s April 21 and there has been no information about April yet. Why the lag time?”

Dear Blotter Fan, the short answer is lack of space. While the entire blotter is posted to or Web site – www.morganhilltimes.com – there is often less space in the paper than is needed to get the entire blotter in. We often will run a large blotter on days when space is available, thus catching up. Another factor is we seem to be getting more and more blotter items recently. Call it a sign of the times.

I called the city, but no one came

“Hi Red Phone, a few months back I wrote in and asked about the city laws concerning the number of vehicles permitted per residence. Your answer included a run-down of the current laws. You also suggested calling a city phone number where I could report my concerns. I was told that someone from the city would come out and investigate. I’ve called this city number twice and left messages requesting that someone come investigate. No one responds. No one investigates. I appreciate Red Phone’s advice, but in this case it has led to a dead-end. Thanks.”

Dear Led to a Dead End, Red Phone contacted John Amos, the city’s code enforcement officer, who apologized for the delay and said he’d take a look at your complaint. Anyone else who wants to file a complaint should call the city at 779-2101 or go to www.morgan-hill.ca.gov. Hope that helps, good caller.

Devices to monitor U.S. 101 traffic

“All along U.S. 101 someone has been putting up new aluminum poles between Morgan Hill and Gilroy. Now I see they are putting little white boxes on them with a solar panel. I was wondering if you knew what they were for?”

Dear Wondering, Red Phone contacted Caltrans spokesman Benjamin Edokpayi, who said the devices will be used to monitor the freeway.

“These are solar power for wireless traffic detection, for traffic counts and speed,” he said. An e-mail requesting more details was not immediately returned, so stay tuned for additional details, like why is Caltrans monitoring U.S. 101?
