A 3.4-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter near Pinnacles National Monument shook the area today, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake occurred at 10:44 a.m. and was centered six miles northwest of Pinnacles National Monument in San Benito County, according to the USGS. It was about 20 miles south/southeast from Hollister.
The depth was at 5.4 miles, according to the USGS.
Residents felt the quake as far away as the Morgan Hill area to the north and the Carmel Valley to the west.
3.2 QUAKE THURSDAY
There was a 3.2-magnitude earthquake Thursday near Pinnacles National Monument, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake occurred at 11:17 a.m. at the epicenter, about four miles north/northwest of Pinnacles, according to the USGS. The earthquake was 22 miles southeast of Hollister. Its depth was at 4.5 miles.
Residents reported feeling the earthquake in Hollister, Salinas and Soledad, according to the USGS.
Three minutes later, there was an aftershock in the same area registering as a 1.6-magnitude earthquake. And at 12:27 p.m., there was another one, a 2.5-magnitude temblor, according to the USGS.
There have been several smaller earthquakes in the area in recent weeks.
