Residents around Fifth Street reported that their neighborhood lost power around 10 p.m. Monday. They said it was off for several hours before being restored. PG&E media spokesperson Monica Tell confirmed that the outages – attributed to “PG&E equipment failure” – occurred between 10:02 p.m. and 5:45 a.m. affecting a total 4,957 PG&E customers throughout the night.
“Not all of the 4,957 customers were affected at once,” Tell said. “It was down to just over 300 customers without power by 5 a.m. Tuesday.”
It was the second outage in two days in Gilroy. At 6:37 p.m. Sunday PG&E customers near Leavesley Road began reporting power outages after a transformer blew, according to a PG&E spokesperson. There were 472 customers who lost power until 7:31 p.m. that evening, he said. The cause is believed to be a pick-up truck that crashed into a poll near Leavesley Road and New Avenue.
PG&E did not know if the two incidents were related.
