BIRTHDAY: Bernice McHenry: Bernice McHenry celebrated her 90th birthday July 25.

Bernice, born July 25, 1922, has three sons, Stuart, Doug and David, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She has lived in Gilroy for 90 years and is beloved by her family, who wish her many more birthdays in good health.

HONORS

Joseph Gorndt

Joseph Gorndt, of Morgan Hill, graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. Gorndt earned a Juris Doctor in Law. Gorndt was one of nearly 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students who received their diplomas May 20 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

Marquette University is a Catholic, Jesuit university that draws its more than 11,500 students from all 50 states and more than 75 different countries.

Lauretta Avina

Lauretta Avina, a double major senior at Ashford University, has finished her first major, criminal and social justice and has started to study for her second major, social science. She will graduate in 2013.

Lauretta has made the Dean’s List her entire three years at Ashford University. Her goal, once she graduates, is to be a victim advocate within the criminal justice world.

She is currently an intern with Santa Clara County Juvenile Probation-Victim Services, a part-time facilitator of victim awareness classes with Santa Clara County Juvenile Probation and a public speaker promoting victim awareness as well as a non-paid member of Promote Victims of Violent Crime-Advisory Board with Santa Clara County. Lauretta is also a volunteer victim speaker for Victim Awareness Classes with SCC JPD.

David Hamblin

David Hamblin, a senior majoring in environmental science, technology and policy, was named to the Dean’s List at California State University, Monterey Bay for the spring semester. The Dean’s List recognizes students who have achieved a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 for a course load of at least 12 credits.

David, son of Robert an Cindy Hamblin of Morgan Hill, is a 2007 graduate of Sobrato High School.

WEDDING

Mancini/Norlander

Bonnie Kathryn Mancini and Crow Jonah Norlander were married June 9, 2012 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Bonnie, daughter of Bob and Barbara Mancini of Morgan Hill, attended Live Oak High School and Gavilan College. She earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Biola University in 2004. Bonnie’s career has included working for John Tesh and Vera Wang. She currently works for Madison Partners in Manhattan, and is continuing graduate studies at NYU (visual arts administration).

Crow, son of Sarah Ashton of Maine and Jeffrey-Paul Norlander of Colorado, is a graduate of George Washington High School and Brown University (AB, literary arts and modern culture and media). He currently works for OgilvyAction in Manhattan as a web developer.

The ceremony took place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brooklyn. The couple spent their honeymoon on California’s Central Coast, and now reside in Brooklyn.
