Grant Joseph Silva and Logan James Silva

Twins Grant Joseph Silva and Logan James Silva were born Aug. 8 to Leigh and Todd Silva of Walnut Creek in Walnut Creek. Grant was 19 inches and 6 pounds 11, ounces. Logan was 20 inches and 7 pounds, 7 ounces. Grandparents are Shorty and Sally Sliva of Hollister and Jim and Beryl Wilcox of Bend, Ore. Great grandparents are Irene Silva and Babe Hubbell of Hollister. Grant and Logan join brother Griffin, 7, and sister Ali, 4.

Honors

Catherine M. Mifsud

Bill and Pauline Mifsud of Hollister proudly announce their daughter Catherine’s completion of her master’s degree. Catherine graduated from Boston College in May 2005 with a master of arts in theology. Her research on the history of liturgical reform culminated in her comprehensive exam entitled, “Becoming the Body of Christ: Virgil Michel and the American Catholic Liturgical Movement.”

While a graduate student at Boston College, Catherine served as the theology department representative for the Graduate Student Association. She has accepted a teaching position in the Religious Studies Department at St. Francis High School in Mountain View.

Catherine will be responsible for three sections of the freshman course, Intro to Religious Studies and two sections of the sophomore course, Christian Scriptures. Along with her teaching duties, Catherine will also serve as the Students Opposed to Drugs and Alcohol (SODA) Club moderator, as well as an assistant in the Campus Ministry Department.

Catherine is a graduate of Sacred Heart School in Hollister (1993), Notre Dame High School in Salinas (1997) and the University of San Francisco (2001).

She is the granddaughter of Catherine Dabo of Hollister and the late James and Maryann Mifsud, sister of Bill Mifsud of Hollister, Mike and wife Michelle Mifsud of San Jose, and Christina and husband Luciano Camilli of Florence, Italy.

Honors

Brian Crane

Brian Crane, son of Steve and Karen Crane, has been named on the Deans List at California State University, Chico. Brian is a 2004 graduate of Live Oak High School and is majoring in mechanical engineering. He completed his freshman year with a grade point average of 3.6.

Military

Paul Badillo

Army National Guard Capt. Paul Badillo has arrived at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to support the mission of Operation Enduring Freedom. He will serve as member of Joint Task Force 170, whose primary mission is to support detainee operations and serve as the Department of Defense’s focal point for interrogation operations. Badillo, a logistics officer, is the son of Richard and Gloria Badillo of San Martin. He received an associate degree in 1993 from Gavilan College, and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1995 from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Aaron Hernandez

Air Force Airman 1st Class Aaron Hernandez has completed a six-month tour of duty which began Feb. 5 in support of the Global War on Terrorism. The airman, a security forces leader with one year of military service, is regularly assigned to the 28th Security Forces Squadron, Ellsworth Air Force Base, Rapid City, S.D. He is the son of Gustavo and Belia Hernandez of Hollister and is a 2003 graduate of San Benito High School.Anniversary

Mendosa-Hattaway

Melinda Ashley Mendosa and Rick Hattaway were married Aug. 21, 2004. Father Peter officiated.

Melinda is the daughter of Mike and Carmen Mendosa of Gilroy.

She graduated from Gilroy High in 2001 and attended Gavilan College. She is currently working for Longs Drug Store in Gilroy and for the family business, Victoria’s Mexican Restaurant.

Rick is the son of Rick and Donna Hattaway of Frazier Park, Calif.

He graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1994 and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Woodbury University in Burbank in 1998.

He now operates his own business, Malibu Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc., in Gilroy.

The bride’s maid of honor was Sabrina Ortega, and her attendants were Dena Hattaway, sister of groom; Cyndi and Shantal Dominguez; and Amber Muniz, all cousins of the bride; and Stacy Luberto and Maxine Bermudez. The flower girl was cousin Presley Prieto.

Randy Hattaway was best man for his brother. Groomsmen were Michael and Matthew Mendosa, brothers of the bride; Zachary Snyder, cousin of the bride; and Donald Prieto, cousin of the bride; and friends Phana Seng and Steven Lewingskikal. The ushers were cousins Devin Rottler, Lance Wolfsmith and Forrest Alvarez.

After the wedding, there was a sit-down dinner for 200 people at San Juan Oaks with special guests Rose and Angela Gage, aunts of the groom, and grandmother Francis Veltri, all of southern California.

The couple’s first dance was performed by cousin Donald “Elvis” Prieto, who sang “Cross my Heart.”

The honeymoon was in Maui, Hawaii.

The couple would like to thank their family and friends for their love and support.

Wedding

Pasquariello-Bozek

Laura Anne Pasquariello was married Aug. 20 to Michael David Bozek. The marriage was performed at St. Cornelius RC Church in Long Beach by the Reverend Patrick Sheary, S.J. A reception was held at The Ritz Carlton Hotel, in Dana Point, Calif.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pasquariello of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., formerly of Gilroy.

Mr. Bozek is the son of the late Mrs. Catherine Newton Bozek and Mr. Richard Bozek of Irvine, Calif.

The bride wore a white satin gown adorned with hand-beaded, re-embroidered lace, with short lace sleeves and a castillian train. She carried a bouquet of white roses, lilies and stephanotis. Her long mantilla veil with sequined Alencon edging was made by her mother.

Miss Millicent Olague served as maid of honor. Mrs. Lisa Brabender, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Priscilla Keller, Mrs. Susan Nelson, Mrs. Teresita Castro, Miss Jenny Sebestik and Miss Danielle Brabender.

Mr. Bozek’s best man was Christopher Bozek. The ushers were Paul Cecco, Christopher Cervantes, Ian McCance, Sean McCance and Roy Woo.

Mrs. Bozek holds an associate degree in nursing and is currently employed by Mission Regional Medical Center, Mission Viejo, Calif. as a registered critical rehabilitation nurse. Mr. Bozek graduated from California State University, Long Beach. He is currently employed by Cox Communications in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. where the couple will reside after their wedding trip.

Engagement

Marquez-Herrera

The families of Meghan Elise Marquez and Alexander James Herrera are pleased to announce the couple’s engagement. Meghan, a native of Hollister and 2002 graduate of North Monterey County High, became engaged on June 25 to Alexander, also a Hollister resident and a 2002 graduate of Santa Teresa High School in San Jose.

Meghan works at Windows, Walls, and Floors, and Alexander works at Island Air in San Jose.

The couple plans to wed Oct. 15 and to head to Hawaii for their honeymoon. The will make their home in Hollister.
