Stephanie Leanne Smith and Eric Dean Calderon were married May 8, 2010.

Stephanie, daughter of Michael and Leslie Smith of Gilroy, graduated from Gilroy High School in 2004. She served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve for 5 1/2 years, stationed in various cities in Germany. She is currently working on completing her college degree and plans to major in sociology. She is employed by Lockheed Martin as a supply technician for the 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Eric, son of Ezequiel and Corena Calderon of American Canyon, graduated from Napa High School in 2007. He was also stationed in Germany before Ft. Carson and Illesheim, Germany, where he met Stephanie. He serves as military police in the U.S. Army with the 759th MP Battalion at Ft. Carson, Colo.

The couple exchanged vows in Gilroy and honeymooned in Las Vegas.

HONORS

David Patrick

David Patrick, of Morgan Hill, majored in economics and science in the College of Science at Virginia Tech. Patrick is a member of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Class of 2010 and has been commissioned in the U.S. Army.

Kyle Mosbrucker

Kyle Mosbrucker, of Morgan Hill, was awarded a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) from Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. Those graduating cum laude carried a grade point average of 3.71 to 3.86.

Graduates came from 21 states and 11 countries, including Nepal, Turkey and Mongolia. Sixty-six percent were female and 34 percent were male. The most popular majors were business, education, exercise science and nursing.

Ryan Chisolm

Ryan Gregg Chisolm was awarded a bachelor’s degree from Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore.

Jennifer Ruiz

Jennifer Ruiz, of Gilroy, was awarded a master’s degree in nutrition from Saint Joseph College, in Hartford, Conn., May 16, 2010.

Saint Joseph College, founded in 1932 by the Sisters of Mercy to provide higher education opportunities for women, is a comprehensive institution serving women from diverse backgrounds and religious traditions.

Jessie Rush

Army Pvt. Jessie A. Rush has graduated from the Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

The course is designed to train servicemembers to maintain, prepare and load ammunition for firing; operate and perform operator maintenance on prime movers, self-propelled Howitzers, and ammunition vehicles; store, maintain, and distribute ammunition to using units as a member of battery or battalion ammunition section; perform crew maintenance and participate in organizational maintenance of weapons and related equipment; and establish and maintain radio and wire communications.

Rush is the son of Christina and stepson of Vince Soares of Gilroy and a 2009 graduate of Mount Madonna High School.

ENGAGEMENT

Powell/Stieber

Catherine Powell and Brandon Stieber are engaged to be married.

Catherine, daughter of Dan and Carol Powell, of Gilroy, received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UC Irvine in 2006. She is in business and finance at Waddell and Reed.

Brandon, son of Paul and Debe Stieber, of Gilroy, received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2006. He is a civil engineer with Ruth and Going in San Jose.

A dinner party was enjoyed at Yankee Pier on Santana Row. A celebration was also observed for Catherine’s 27th birthday by the two families.

The couple resides in San Jose.

McCanns celebrate 10 years

Carl and Margaret McCann, of Morgan Hill, celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary June 17, 2010. Laura and Chrissann congratulate the happy couple.

Daniel Joshua Vasquez was born June 2, 2010 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to Melissa Rivera and Frank Vasquez III. He weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces.
