Jamie Giles Dempsey was born on Sept. 29 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital to parents Tina and James Dempsey and siblings Jonerik, J.J. and Taylor. She weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce.

Jessica Contreras

Jessica Contreras was born on Oct. 3 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital to parents Maria and Jesus Contreras. She weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces.

Eden Ivrie DeAlba

Eden Ivrie DeAlba was born on Sept. 30 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital to parents Ivrie and David DeAlba. She weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces.

Kalia Jasmine Castro

Zaniyah Jolyn Avila

Henry Jonathan Silva

Henry Jonathan Silva was born on Sept. 2 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital in Hollister to parents Laura and Henry Silva. He weighed 9 pounds, 13 ounces.

Terran Elizabeth Garcia

Terran Elizabeth Garcia was born on Sept. 27 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital in Hollister to Jennifer and Fernando Garcia. She weighed 7 pounds.

Holly McKenna Driscoll

Holly McKenna Driscoll was born on Aug. 30 at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy to parents Melissa and Brian Driscoll. She weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces.

Engagements

Rubio – Werthmann

Dr. and Mrs. Norman Currie of Hollister and Angelo Rubio of Ada, Okla., are proud to announce that their daughter Kimberly Mashawn Rubio will marry Paul Andrew Werthmann next year.

Rubio is a graduate of the University of Portland and is currently employed with Healthsouth Forest Surgery Center, and Werthmann is self employed with Werthmann Electric Co., Inc.

The couple currently lives in San Jose. Their nuptials will take place on May 13, 2006.

Borello – Ferguson

The Fergusons and Borellos would like to announce the engagement of Jana Ferguson and Gino Borello. 

Ferguson 22, is a graduate of Live Oak High School and is currently finishing up her degree at San Jose State University. Borello 24, grew up in Morgan Hill and attended Palma High School. He graduated from SJSU in 2004 and is now in the process of earning his MBA. He is currently working as an operations manager for M.Rizzo Landscaping. The two met while attending SJSU and that is the very place where Borello proposed. Their wedding will be held at The Ranch Golf Club in San Jose next year. 

Marriages

Gamm – Upchurch

Talia Gamm, daughter of Sue and Curt Gamm of Gilroy, married Eric Eugene Upchurch, of South Carolina, on July 6.

Gamm is a 1999 graduate of Gilroy High School and later went on to earn a degree in biopsychology from University of California Santa Barbara in 2003. Upchurch, raised in Iowa, also graduated from UCSB, with a degree in geography. He attended the California Culinary Academy and is now in officer training in the Army. The couple will live in Charleston, S.C.

Dunn – Hernandez

Lora Dunn, of Gilroy, and Brian Hernandez, of San Martin were married on June 18 at Svendal in Morgan Hill.

Dunn, was walked down the aisle by her mother, Ruth Dunn, of Gilroy. She wore a long strapless gown with embroidered crystals and a long train. Both Live Oak graudates, Dunn works for the Morgan Hill School District and Hernandez works with A&M Electrical Company. Hernandez is the son of Ray and Debbie Hernandez of San Martin.

The couple spent their honeymoon in Mexico.

Military

Airman 1st Class Shelley Yasui

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Shelley M. Yasui has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Yasui is a 1989 graduate of San Benito High School, Calif.

Airman David Blanco

Air Force Airman David Blanco has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

He is the son of Reyna Hernandez of Cosco Court, Hollister, Calif.

Blanco is a 2005 graduate of San Benito High School, Hollister.

Airman Manuel Alvarez Jr.

Air Force Airman Manuel Alvarez Jr. has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

Alvarez is the son of Manuel Alvarez Sr. of Cushman St., Hollister, Calif. He is a 2005 graduate of San Benito High School, Hollister.

Honors

2006 National Merit Scholarship Commended Students

The following Monte Vista Christian School students have been commended by the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program: Xiaofei Chen, Julia Conley, David Evans, and Amy Finney .

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2006 competition for Merit Scholarship Awards, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than one million students who entered the 2006 competition by taking the 2004 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
