It was yet another exciting and busy week for Live Oak’s ASB. We went on our very first field trip of the year to the Jostin’s Leadership Conference held in Salinas on Thursday the 22nd.

There were about 900 students from all different schools who attended. As we all gathered together, the room filled with school spirit and pride.

We were greeted with a terrific motivational speaker, Sam Glenn, otherwise known as the “chalk guy.”

He combined humor and entertainment into his motivational speech and went on to draw a beautiful chalk mural right before our eyes.

His speech was very inspirational and taught us how and why to make positive choices down the path of life.

After he was finished, we were then directed to split among our class into several groups to go into different workshops involving ASB activities.

The workshops ranged from things such as clubs, yearbooks, cultural diversity, rallies, etc.

The Live Oak group got a lot of fun ideas to share with the rest of our student body on entertaining activities, so students, be prepared for a lot of fun this year.

This is Live Oak’s 100th year in existence and we have some very exciting events planned to celebrate.

Over the weekend we stayed busy with managing a booth at the Taste of Morgan Hill.

The booth was set up to give information out to the community about Live Oak’s big centennial birthday.

We would especially like to get all our alumni to attend and possibly be a part of these events.

If you are a Live Oak alumni and did not get a chance to visit the booth, we would really like to invite you to please contact our ASB office and get some contact information from you to be sure you are notified of these events.

All community members are also encouraged to get involved as well.

We are currently working on setting up a link on the Live Oak website to display a list of centennial activities, and will let you all know when we are up and running.

We are now into the month of October and our ASB has decided to reach out our support against the fight for Breast Cancer.

Live Oak is getting “tied to the cause.” Well, more accurately put, we are getting pinned to the cause.

We have purchased our very own button making machine and have decided to make pins with the pink breast cancer ribbon and an awareness message to display our support.

We have not finalized a price but believe they will run about $2 a pin with all profits being donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness foundation. If any community members are interested in purchasing a Live Oak pin, please contact the Live Oak ASB office at 201-6100.

We would like to not only raise Breast Cancer awareness throughout our high school but also throughout Morgan Hill. Keep reading in to see what our ASB is up to.

Elicia Perkins is a Live Oak senior, ASB social chairperson and cheerleader. She will be writing the weekly Associated Student Body column, alternating with Lauren Devine, Megan Hamilton, Jessica Towner and Katie Kenyon. Elicia can be reached at ed******@*************es.com
