LAMOORE — Amanda Schlaefer, a 15-year-old gymnast who trains at Champions Academy in Morgan Hill, proudly brought home a bronze medal from the March 27 Northern California Level 10 State Championships in Lamoore.
Schlaefer placed fifth in the vault, scoring 9.2, fifth in the bars at 8.675, third in the beam at 9.025 and fourth in floor at 9.025. Her third-place all-around score of 35.925 was a season best and also qualified her for the April 17 Regional Championships in Sacramento.
Schlaefer will compete against other regional qualifiers from Northern and Southern California, Utah, Arizona and Nevada for a spot at nationals. The top gymnasts from the Regional Championships — the U.S. comprises eight regions — will qualify to compete in the National Championships in Auburn, Wash., in May.
