MH gymnast wins Level 10 bars title
Morgan Hill native Amanda Schlaefer concluded a successful gymnastics season with a strong performance in the May 9 Level 10 National Invitational Tournament in Dallas.
Schlaefer, 16, scored 9.375 to win the bars title and placed second (9.4) in vault. She was in position to win the meet until she fell during her final rotation on beam. Schlaefer finished fourth all around.
Gymnasts from across the country competed in the season finale at the Dallas Convention Center, having qualified in State and Regional Championship meets. Several collegiate coaches attended the event.
Schlaefer, a junior at Valley Christian High School, hopes to compete at the next level. She trains more than 25 hours a week at Bay Aerials Gymnastics in Fremont and previously trained at Champions Academy of Morgan Hil.
