I have been following the progress of the proposed Teachers Housing Project. As a homeowner in the Rio Sereno development (off Watsonville Road, near Monterey Road) the outcome of the adjoining project has a direct affect on our development.
After I attended the Planning Commission meeting on Oct. 28, I’m convinced that the Teachers Housing Project, if built as currently planned, will result in sub-standard housing, on small lots, with many building code compromises made to fit 12 units onto a site that is best suited for eight to nine units.
We all agree that something needs to be done to encourage teachers to settle in Morgan Hill. More importantly, once they are here, we want them to stay. The Teachers Housing Project is an attempt to do this. Scaling back the project to eight or nine units will provide a solution appropriate to the one-acre site.
