The Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross has appointed Barbara Larson as CEO. Her tenure begins March 12.
Larson joins Arra G. Yerganian, who was elected over the summer as chairman of the chapter’s board of directors.
Larson served as director of donor services at Community Foundation Silicon Valley. Larson helped establish the Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund (SV2), a group of Silicon Valley donors interested in venture philanthropy and worked with donors and corporations to realize their philanthropic goals.
Larson has an extensive history with the Red Cross. Prior to joining the Community Foundation Silicon Valley, Larson spent five years working as a fundraising professional and department manager at two California chapters of the American Red Cross; one located in Palo Alto and the other in Whittier. Additionally, Larson has been an American Red Cross volunteer for over 10 years and an experienced disaster responder having worked on several disasters including Hurricane Katrina, the San Bernardino wildfires, and Hurricane Georges.
The American Red Cross Santa Clara Valley Chapter is a non-profit, humanitarian organization, which provides services for more than 1.5 million residents of Santa Clara County in the cities of Morgan Hill, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, San Jose, Milpitas, Cupertino, Campbell, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, Los Gatos, San Martin, Gilroy, and all unincorporated areas of the county. The Santa Clara Valley Chapter has over 1,200 registered volunteers and 500 youth volunteers, who are supported by 37 paid staff members.Â
