Students reading Poetry about the Garden

On Oct. 24, the San Martin/Gwinn Elementary School Garden received a grant from Western Growers Foundation and Uesugi Farms. The presentation took place at 11 a.m. in the garden and included the students of Mrs. Moore’s fourth-grade class, members of the Western Growers Foundation, and Associates of Uesugi Farms.
Student’s from Mrs. Moore’s fourth-grade class read letters of thanks to Western Growers Foundation and Uesugi Farms along with poetry they had written about their wonderful garden. To conclude the festivities a Grant Check was awarded to the San Martin/Gwinn Home & School Club for the Garden. The amount originally granted was $1,500 but to everyone’s surprise the wonderful San Martin/Gwinn Elementary School Garden was awarded $4,180. This news brought tears to the eyes of many volunteers, students, & Teachers. This funding will surely help the continual growth of this wonderful student ran garden.
Among the many benefits of the student ran garden, the promoting of healthy living and agricultural education are wonderful additions to the students daily curriculum. All grade levels have the ability to participate in the garden on a daily basis. Fruits and vegetables are plentiful through out the garden and thanks to Western Growers Foundation and Uesugi Farms the San Martin/Gwinn community will be able to grow their garden and offer the students much more hands on education.
