San Jose – Jamie Temperino led with 17 kills and the Gavilan Rams marched to a three-game sweep of the San Jose City College Lady Jags Wednesday in San Jose.

“Overall, we played pretty solid and played with a lot of heart tonight,” coach Kevin Kramer said after the game.

The Rams knocked off the Lady Jags 30-23, 30-22, 30-28 to improve to 7-6 on the season.

Gavilan pounced to an early lead on the host Jags, but after holding a 7-1 lead in game one, saw their advantage evaporate on a San Jose 10-2 run.

But Gavilan’s Teresa Hodges supplied eight of her 14 kills on the night in the first game, and the Rams eventually went on to win the opener 30-23.

The second game was similar to the first, in that Gavilan jumped out to an early lead once again only to see it vanish when both teams were knotted 11-11. But, just like the previous game, Gavilan would later triumph 30-22 to take a 2-0 lead.

In the third game, it was the Lady Jags who ran out to an early lead, but the home team lost momentum after a “thunderous” kill from Temperino. The Rams would take the third game, as well as the sweep, with a 30-28 victory, despite great play on both sides of the net.

Janet Unciano led the Rams with 28 assists on the night.

Gavilan will return home to Gilroy Friday to host Ohlone College at 6pm. Ohlone previously defeated San Jose City College as well.

“We’ve played them once this year and they took a game from us,” Kramer said. “We should do well on Friday.”
