Thanks to a 19 point second quarter, the Sobrato boys basketball team improved to 8-4 Friday with a 51-42 victory over Pioneer.
In the win, Kristian Maldia and Wesley Craig each led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Isaiah Hardy added seven points and Karl Mann scored nine points in the victory.
The Bulldogs are now 2-0 in league play. Sobrato hosts Silver Creek at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
On the girls side, Sobrato couldn’t keep pace with Willow Glen and fell 54-43 to move to 0-2 in league play. Overall, the Bulldogs are 3-8.
In the loss, Willow Glen jumped out to a 34-27 halftime lead and cruised to the victory in the second half. The Bulldogs will attempt to move into the win column at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Silver Creek High.
Live Oak basketball
Behind 17 points from Jocelyn Mendoza, the Live Oak girls basketball team improved to 8-4 Friday with a 60-30 blowout victory over Andrew Hill.
The Acorns exploded out of the gate, rallying for a 17-3 first-quarter lead. Live Oak never slowed down from there. Andrew Hill never led in the contest, as Live Oak extended its lead every quarter.
Freshman Fayth Lyon scored 13 points for the Acorns. Fellow freshman Amy Gunther added 11 points for Live Oak.
The Acorns travel to Overfelt at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The boys basketball team fell to 6-6 Friday after a 44-31 loss to Mt. Pleasant. The Cardinals strong defense limited the Acorn opportunities throughout the night. Only once did Live Oak score more than six points in a quarter.
Luke Laguna led the offense for the Acorns with 11 points.
Live Oak’s season continues at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Overfelt.
Sobrato soccer
Despite an early goal by Fernando Quiroz, the Sobrato soccer team couldn’t hold on to defeat Prospect on Friday.
Instead the Bulldogs fell 2-1 to Prospect and 0-1-1 in league play.
Sobrato hosts Andrew Hill at 3:15 p.m. Monday in Morgan Hill.
