The Live Oaks girls field hockey team improved to 2-0 Tuesday, beating Willow Glen 4-1 on the road.
The Acorns scored early thanks to the play of senior Danielle Acosta. The scoring play started when sophomore midfielder Taylor Dempsey beat a Willow Glen outside defender and passed the ball hard toward the net.
Acosta, standing near the goal, picked up the rebound and tossed it past the goalkeeper.
The lead was short-lived, though, because 10 minutes later, Willow Glen evened the score after a Live Oak defensive miscommunication.
In the second half, Sydney Barker helped create multiple scoring opportunities for the Acorns. Less than 10 minutes into the half, Barker took control of an offensive strike for the Acorns. Acosta took a Barker toss from the 16-yard scoring circle, and deflected the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead.
Barker wasn’t finished.
Later, Barker again used her dribbling skills to create a corner opportunity. Driving the baseline, she placed the ball toward Macey Dunne, who tossed the ball into the net.
The Acorns final goal came with only four minutes remaining in the game.
Barker finished her strong game with the final goal of the contest, beating the goalie with a shot from at the top of the scoring circle.
The Acorns travel to Branham High on Thursday.
Live Oak Tennis
The Acorns tennis team opened its season Tuesday with a 7-0 loss to Willow Glen.

Sobrato Field Hockey
Despite outshooting Los Altos 9-6, the Sobrato girls field hockey team lost 2-0 to the Eagles on Tuesday.
“The players have improved their play considerably and gave Los Altos all they could handle,” Bulldog head coach Mikael Niehoff said. “Sobrato is in a rebuilding mode and the players are implementing new tactics and skills. I was extremely proud of the improvement my players have made over the past few weeks.”
Sobrato started the season last week with losses to Gilroy and Live Oak.
The Bulldogs will aim for their first win Thursday at Del Mar in San Jose.
