SPORTS SHORTS: LOHS, SHS taking part in Dig Pink girls volleyball event Saturday

Live Oak baseball continued to rebound at an impressive rate Friday, beating Prospect 14-2 for the Acorns’ fourth consecutive win since losing seven straight from Feb. 25 to March 16.

It was their only game in a rain-soaked week, and the Acorns made it count. Jakob Conlan doubled twice and drove in two runs; John Forestieri hit a solo home run, and Aaron Armijo and Mitch Hickey contributed two RBIs apiece. Jalen Salazar plated two runs, and Adrian Garcia tripled for Live Oak, which had 13 hits.

Hickey (3-2) won for the second straight start with six strikeouts in three hitless innings. He allowed two walks.

The Acorns moved to 3-6 overall and 6-8 in the Santa Teresa Division.

Softball    

Freshman Mackenzie Mitchell went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, and Sobrato beat Prospect 2-1 Friday in Saratoga to climb to 4-0 in the Santa Teresa Division.

Marissa Heffernan added a double for the Bulldogs (7-4 overall), and Gail Wiselogel struck out two and surrendered three hits in four innings to get the win.

  • Live Oak ended a two-game slide in the Mount Hamilton Division with a crucial 4-3 victory over Pioneer on Friday at Live Oak High School.

Rachel Ditta doubled, singled and scored to lead the Acorns (7-5, 2-2), and Katie Obbema earned the decision, moving to 6-3.

Track and field    

Saturday’s Avis Kelley Invitational in Gilroy was postponed because of rain.

It has been tenatively rescheduled for April 28.
