A pair of late goals doomed the Sobrato High field hockey team in its 2-0 loss to Willow Glen on Thursday.
“Sobrato girls played well,” Bulldogs coach Mike Niehoff said. “We just failed to execute on our scoring chances. It was one of those games where whoever scored first was probably going to win it.”
The tightly played contest was scoreless until the Rams broke through with three minutes to play in the second half. Willow Glen added an insurance goal about two minutes later.
Sobrato Volleyball
Sobrato varsity volleyball defeated Fremont 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-14) in a non-league match Friday in Morgan Hill.
The Bulldogs (7-7 overall, 2-2 Mount Hamilton) resume league action at Westmont on Tuesday.
Live Oak Field Hockey
The Live Oak varsity field hockey team fell to 4-4-1 Friday, losing to Prospect 2-0. Prospect scored two second-half goals to beat the Acorns. Live Oak continues league play Wednesday against Cupertino.
Live Oak Tennis
The Live Oak girls tennis team was swept by Willow Glen 7-0 on Thursday. The loss gives the Acorns an 0-8 record. Live Oak returns to the courts Tuesday against league-opponent Andrew Hill.
Oakwood Cross Country
The Oakwood Cross Country participated in the second Coastal Athletic League Center Meet of the season at Wilder Ranch in Santa Cruz.
Freshman Ben Millward was Oakwood’s top finisher in the boys’ race, finishing eighth in 19 minutes, 14 seconds. Bailey Mancini (20:58), Aaron Bagheri (21:31) and Quinn Rickard (21:44) ran close together in the middle of the field of runners to score points for the team. Matthew McGregor was the final scoring Oakwood member, placing 20th. Miles Batey had a strong performance, while Bob Bagheri, Gourav Divan and Jeff Henderson continued to improve their individual running.
Sarah Langerman had another solid outing, clocking a 26:35 for seventh in the girls race.
