Live Oak senior Amy Fearnside won the 112-pound title at the California USA Junior/Open Women’s Freestyle Tournament Saturday in Fresno.

Representing the Morgan Hill Rhinos, Fearnside went 3-0 and beat Angelica Llanes 4-1 in the final to capture her second state championship of 2012.

Fearnside won the 108-pound CIF title in February.

The Rhinos had two other girls leave Fresno with high honors Saturday, as Live Oak’s Isabella Fernandez and Amber Aochi placed second and sixth, respectively, in the 115-pound California USA Cadet Girls Freestyle tournament.

Fearnside and Fernandez plan to wrestle in a national event July 11-19 in Fargo, N.D.

Baseball

John Forestieri had three hits, Mitch Hickey threw a three-hitter for his sixth win of 2012, and Live Oak pulled to within a game of second place in the Santa Teresa Division by beating Silver Creek 4-1 Wednesday in San Jose.

The Acorns (10-11, 8-10), needing a sweep of their final four games to have any shot at sectionals, took care of business against the struggling Raiders (10-13, 6-12).

Hickey and Forestieri drove in one run a piece, and Adrian Garcia added two RBIs for Live Oak. Hickey (6-2) struck out seven and walked three.

The Acorns host Prospect for Senior Day at 4 p.m. Friday.

  • Zayne Patino homered, and Nick Giordano doubled for Sobrato in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Leland.

The Bulldogs will play their Senior Game against Willow Glen at 4 p.m. Friday.

Softball

Live Oak had a four-game win streak in league play snapped with a 4-0 loss at Pioneer on Wednesday.

The Acorns (12-8, 7-4) remained in third place in the Mount Hamilton Division with three games to go. They will open a two-game homestand at 4 p.m. Friday against Piedmont Hills.

Live Oak’s Senior Game is scheduled for Tuesday against Leland.

Swimming

Sobrato will be out to sweep the boys and girls team titles and take individual honors and section-qualifying marks in the Santa Teresa Division Finals, starting at 1 p.m. Friday at Independence High School.

The championship heats begin at 2 p.m. Saturday.
