After winning its first Central Coast Section playoff game and finishing in second place in the Blossom Valley’s Mount Hamilton Division, the Sobrato football team was rewarded with 11 all-league selections this week.

Senior linebacker Nick Hardy took home the biggest award after being named the league’s co-linebacker of the year with Santa Teresa’s Stephen Neri. He was joined on the all-league first team with quarterback Michael Bocksnick, running back Miguel Redmond, lineman Blake Porzio, wide receiver Isaiah Hardy and linebacker Dresden Redfield.

In his only year at Sobrato, Bocksnick went 88-for-162 through the air for 21 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also ran for 857 yards and 10 touchdowns on 112 carries.

Redmond led the Bulldogs with 1,283 rushing yards on 176 carries. Isaiah Hardy finished with a team-high 42 catches for 1,041 yards and eight touchdowns.

Five Bulldogs – lineman Brad Cachopo, defensive lineman William Puna, defensive lineman Vincent Fanua, linebacker Zack Zhang and running back Drew Glines – were named to the second team.

In the Santa Teresa Division, Live Oak was awarded with nine all-league selections.

The Acorns’ Trevor Bearden, who finished with 2,176 yards and 20 touchdowns on 238 carries, was named the junior player of year. Live Oak’s Lineman Anthony Ditta was named the freshman of the year as well.

Running back Mark Butterworth, who ran for 517 yards and three touchdowns on 89 carries, was named the offensive back of the year. And Kyle Quadros took home the linebacker of the year award.

Tight end Brandon Duran and linebacker Joey Rodriguez were named to the all-league first team.

On the second team, defensive back Jerado Caro, linebacker Ryan Quadros and lineman Billy Bennett earned selections.

Girls Water Polo

After going 10-0 during the Santa Teresa Division season, the Live Oak girls water polo team earned six all-league selections and the coach of the year award.

Marissa Sendejas was named the league’s MVP for her season inside the pool. She was joined by teammates Jessica Lawrence, Andrea Topete and Gena Acevedo on the first team.

Crystal Cardenas and Deni Miller earned second-team selections.

Head coach Sara Crusinberry was named the coach of the year after leading the Acorns to an overall record of 12-10.

Sobrato, which earned a 2-3 record inside the higher Mount Hamilton Division, received two all-league selections.

Leading scorer Gabrielle Smith was named to the league’s first team. Teammate Lana Burnett earned a second team selection.

Boys Water Polo

After both Sobrato and Live Oak finished its seasons with sub-.500 records, both goalies were named to the Mount Hamilton Division’s first team earlier this week.

Sobrato’s Lucas Salem and Live Oak’s Nick Hoffman were selected as the first-team goalies.

On the second team, Sobrato seniors John Anderson and Jacob Pignone were selected. Live Oak’s David Molyneux also earned a second-team selection.

Volleyball

Thanks to a fourth-place finish inside the BVAL’s Mount Hamilton Division, the Sobrato volleyball team earned three all-league selections, including junior of the year, earlier this week.

Setter Miranda Werts earned the junior of the year accolades for the Bulldogs. Emily Kyle was named to the all-league first team and Devyn Gunsky took home a second team selection.

Live Oak, which finished with a 12-16 record, earned two all-league selections. Senior Fa Saulala was named to the first team after finishing with a team-high 342 kills.

Savanna Hartman earned a second-team selection.

Field Hockey

With a second place finish inside the BVAL’s Santa Teresa Division, the Acorns were rewarded with five all-league selections.

Sydney Barker, Macey Dunne and Hanna Doting were named to the first team. Teammates Emily Conlan and Emily Guthormsen were named to the Santa Teresa’s second team.
