The Live Oak baseball team will return to the Central Coast Section playoffs after defeating Piedmont Hills 5-3 on the road Thursday.
The Acorns scored all five runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game. With the win, Live Oak finishes the Santa Teresa Division season at 9-5 and 14-12 overall. The Acorns earned a second place finish and an automatic berth into the CCS playoffs. Seeding will be announced Saturday.
Aaron Armijo led the way for the Acorns, hitting a fourth inning two-run home run. Jalen Salazar and Sean Silveria each added an RBI in the victory.
Kyle Quadros threw all seven innings, allowing six hits and one earned run. He struck out five in the win.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs closed a disappointing season Thursday with a 6-0 win over Westmont in Morgan Hill.
Sobrato took advantage of four Westmont errors and scored all six runs in the second inning,
Tanner Disibio struck our four batters in a seven-inning shutout victory for the Bulldogs. Sobrato closes its season at 8-19 overall.
Softball
Both the Live Oak and Sobrato softball teams ended the 2013 with losses Thursday.
Live Oak completed its season at 10-17, losing 15-4 to Santa Teresa on the road. Santa Teresa scored 11 runs in the second inning to pull away. The game ended after the top of the fifth inning because of the score.
Tiffany Moore, Khailyn Neumayer and Rachel Ditta finished 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.
Sobrato couldn’t fare much better, falling to Piedmont Hills 12-2 in Morgan Hill. The Pirates struck for six runs in the first inning to quickly take control. The Bulldogs committed 10 errors in the game.
Kayla Rooney and Kallie Klinger added an RBI in the loss.
