After a neck-and-neck race, prosecutor Jeff Rosen edged out his boss, current District Attorney Dolores Carr by 2,794 votes, or 1.1 percent of the vote, for her seat.

“Today’s results from the Registrar of Voters Office indicate that while the voters of Santa Clara County were deeply divided, the outcome of the DA’s race has been determined,” Carr wrote in a statement posted to her website Friday. “I feel privileged to have served the community as the first female District Attorney in Santa Clara County, and I am proud of what we accomplished.”

Rosen will be inaugurated as DA Jan. 3.

“In this election, we spoke with the people of this county, and together, loudly and clearly, we said one word: justice,” Rosen wrote in an e-mail. “And as long as I serve as this county’s District Attorney, that word will be our guide, our inspiration, and our hallmark. Because only through a just process, and a justice-oriented approach, can we achieve just results.”
