Dear Editor,

All of us know someone who’s battled cancer. Chances are, the disease has taken a relative, friend or co-worker.

We don’t have to stand by powerless. Next month, Morgan Hill area residents can mobilize and act by supporting the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life fundraiser. It’s an event where teams commit to keeping at least one member walking at all times, because cancer never sleeps.

On May 21-22, hundreds of South County residents will circle the track at Oakwood Country School for 24 consecutive hours to boost awareness of cancer, pay tribute to loved ones who have passed away from the disease, support survivors and those still fighting cancer and raise money for a cure.

There’s much you can do to lend a hand.

You can form a team of friends, family, co-workers or schoolmates to walk or run shifts around the track; sponsor someone who is already running or walking; donate directly to the ACS; encourage a cancer survivor to come share their story of hope; or simply show up to cheer on the volunteers.

Teams of 10-20 volunteers are welcome, and individuals may join an existing team. For information or to donate, call Emilie Robb at 408-688-0127.

Relay For Life is more than fun with friends – it supports the greatest cause: Life. See you on the track.
