“Cuco” Salgado died Dec. 30, 2003, at home on his 73rd birthday
in Gilroy, after a lengthy illness.
Refugio “Cuco” Salgado died Dec. 30, 2003, at home on his 73rd birthday in Gilroy, after a lengthy illness.

He was a native of Santa Paula. He worked at Gentry’s as a machine operator for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church. He loved to sing and play his guitar. He enjoyed his grandkids and took pride in all of them. He also enjoyed taking care of his yard.

He was the husband of the late Julia Salgado; father of Monica and her husband, Manuel Chavira, of Gilroy, and the late Theresa Salgado; dear companion of Hope “SP” Murphy of Gilroy; grandfather of Gabriel Hernandez of Gilroy, Jarrod Hernandez of Gilroy, Raymond and his wife Zinnia Hernandez of Gilroy, Adrianna Hernandez of Gilroy, and Rosanna Hernandez of Gilroy; great-grandfather of Gabriel Hernandez Jr. of Gilroy, Julian Hernandez of Gilroy and Raymond Refugio Hernandez Jr. of Gilroy; brother of Ramiro Salgado of Gilroy, Mundo and his wife, Juana Salgado, of Gilroy, Rudy and his wife, Pat Salgado, of Gilroy, Rosa Perez of Santa Paula, and Chavela and her husband, Danny Lozano, of San Jose. He also id survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luciano and Ruth Salgado.

Services were Monday, Jan. 5, at Habing Family Funeral Home followed by Funeral Mass at Mary’s Church. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.
