I live over by the Fry’s Golf Course on Maple and recently,
four, five, six construction trucks have torn up the road. There
was a car accident because of the trucks blocking the roadway. The
California Highway Patrol was called and they responded. The trucks
are actually parking in the center of the street, on the right hand
side, facing the wrong way, etc.

Dear Peeved, Red Phone contacted Kathy Molloy Previsich, the city’s community development director, who said there is no actual “construction” happening at the AIM/golf course. However, they did bring in sand as part of the annual process of “mothballing” the golf course for the winter season (when there is no play on the course).
“Part of annually shutting down the golf course for the winter is that they bring in sand and spread it about an inch think over the grass,” she said. “The sand is below the level of the lawn mower and blades of grass.”
She also said she let the representative of the property know of your concern. And, on Jan. 12, in response to your concern, the city sent crews out to temporary repair the potholes. So good reader, thanks for letting the city know of your concerns. Hope that helps.
Is it legal to pour kitty-litter in gutter?
“Hi Red Phone, Is it legal for my neighbor to poor kitty-litter in the gutter? He pours kitty-litter on oil stains in the gutter and street. Then the kitty-litter makes its way to the front of my house and eventually down the drain. Thanks.”
Dear Littered, Red Phone contacted Anthony Eulo, environmental programs manager, who said if there is an accidental spill of oil, an absorbent material like kitty litter can be used, but it should be swept up and disposed of properly as hazardous waste. Morgan Hill residents can dispose of their household hazardous wastes for free by calling 299-7300.
Good caller, hope your neighbor reads this. If not, perhaps you can cut it out and send it to him.
Lights do nothing during the day
“A few lights at night for security is understandable, but lights do nothing for security during the day. And it is not just the new justice building, but schools, libraries and other government buildings. I am sure turning these off the lights left on for ‘security’ during the day would save precious tax dollars.”
Dear Green, Red Phone couldn’t agree more. Imagine how much energy we could save if everyone, and Red Phone means everyone, turned off lights not in use. Just last weekend Red Phone was in downtown San Jose late at night – yes, Red Phone does get out of the booth once in a while – and saw literally hundreds of lights on in the downtown high rises at midnight. Granted, there may have been some work-a-holics and janitors toiling away, but not enough to account for all the lights seen. Let’s all do our part.
