Red Phone: All dogs must be confined or on a leash

Red Phone, I’ve noticed, even with all the information the city
and the Morgan Hill Times has put out about the need to conserve
water, we still see sprinklers going off at 9:30 a.m. regular as
clock work.
“Red Phone, I’ve noticed, even with all the information the city and the Morgan Hill Times has put out about the need to conserve water, we still see sprinklers going off at 9:30 a.m. regular as clock work. What can we do to make sure people are paying attention not just hoping El Niño is going to bring us a respite from drought next year?”

Red Phone: Dear Water Wise, Red Phone contacted Anthony Eulo, program administrator, who said there are a number of options residents have to help other residents and local businesses remember the community’s drought restrictions.

“First, some people are comfortable reminding others about the current rules and the need for them. While this isn’t always the best approach in every situation, it often is the most effective,” he said. “I’ve found that most violators don’t know about the restrictions and are happy to be informed. Second, the city does have a Water Waste Hotline that people can use to report instances of water waste or water use violations. It can be easily found on the city’s Web site (www.morganhill.ca.gov) by going to the “Report a Concern” button on the lower right side of the home page. Those preferring to use the telephone can dial 778-6480 and place the message in mailbox 481.”

There you have it, good caller. If you’re not comfortable confronting someone, give the hotline a call.

Flag not at half staff was an oversight

“Hey Red Phone, I noticed American flags flying at half staff Aug. 27, but the ones at the new (South County) Courthouse were not lowered. Any idea why?”

Red Phone: Dear Patriotic American, Red Phone contacted Capt. Frank Damiano, the Sheriff’s office division commander for Court Services Division in Santa Clara County. He said all other facilities recognized the presidential order to fly all flags at half mast in honor of the passing of Sen. Ted Kennedy, but the South County Courthouse was a complete oversight.

“The Sheriff’s office takes great pride in every opportunity to honor those who died serving our country,” Damiano said. “I am extremely disappointed that we did not identify the mistake on Aug. 27 and immediately correct it. I take full responsibility for that, and apologize to those who may have been offended.”

So good caller, appears it was just an oversight. Thanks for calling, and thanks to Capt. Damiano for accepting responsibility.
