“How about getting the town to save money instead of squandering it on electricity at the new courthouse. All the lights in that building have been on 24-hours a day for the last two weeks.”
“Dear Red Phone, the lights are on at the new justice building 24 hours a day. Construction is not complete and no one is using the facility.”
“Hi Red Phone, just wondering why the new courthouse building always has its lights on in the evening when the building isn’t occupied? With all the scrutiny surrounding energy conservation, you would think the city would opt to turn the lights off in the building for the time being.”
Dear It’s a Waste, Red Phone contacted Ken Rado, manager of capital projects for Santa Clara County. He said the lights are left on for security reasons and that the contractor pays the electric bill until the county signs off on the project, hopefully by the end of February.
So good callers, the issue is in the hands of county officials, and it looks like the lights will remain on at night. And, while Red Phone would like to say at least it’s not taxpayer money, you can bet the contractor figured in the electric bill as part of the cost of doing business.
Construction at LO is a disruption
“What construction is going on in front of Live Oak High School? It has been going on ever since school started. Whatever it is, couldn’t they have done it during the summer when it wouldn’t be such a disruption? Thanks.”
Dear Disrupted, Red Phone contacted Dan Ehrler, school district spokesman, who said the construction at Live Oak High School began in the summer of 2008 and includes the remodeling of the theatre and the administration building facade and a new amphitheater.
“The administration building facade is forecast to be completed by late spring, and the theatre and amphitheater in midsummer 2009,” he said.
Good caller, hope that helps.
Police need to enforce helmet law
“I’m just curious with the number of kids I’ve seen lately skateboarding and bicycling without helmets. Some are with parents, some are not with parents. I was just curious about if it’s still being enforced by police ? Thanks.”
Dear Is It Enforced, Red Phone contacted Cmdr. Joe Sampson, who said officers enforce those types of non-moving, generally “non-hazardous” violations as higher priority calls for service permit.
“When a juvenile does receive a citation we have a diversion program in this county for these low level juvenile incidents,” he added. “Under our juvenile diversion program the juvenile agrees to go to an instructional class taught by officers in Gilroy rather than go through court proceedings. The citation would then never reach the court and get dismissed in house by issuing agency.”
So there you are, good caller.
