“Red Phone, we need red or yellow flashing lights at Murphy and Tennant avenues and at Hill and Tennant avenues. I am tired of people running the stop signs. Also, Tennant and Foothill avenues need a flashing light when you make a right turn onto Foothill Avenue. Let’s prevent an accident before it happens and somebody gets hurt. Thanks.”
Red Phone: Dear Prevention is the Key, Red Phone first contacted the city, but was told all the intersections mentioned are under the jurisdiction of Santa Clara County.
So, Red Phone contacted traffic engineer Masoud Akbarzadeh, who said the intersections are “all-way stopped,” meaning there are stop signs.
“A stop sign is one of the most powerful traffic control signs used to deliver an important message to drivers and only under special circumstances such as unexpected and/or special roadway geometry, it maybe augmented by a flashing red light,” Akbarzadeh said. “However, we will field check these locations for any potential obstruction(s) such as vegetation growth and to ensure optimum visibility of these signs and markings.”
The right turn at Tennant onto Foothill does not require stopping and is posted by a curve warning sign with a supplementary 15 mph recommended turning speed, he added.
“We will also check this location for optimum signing and pavement marking conditions and will take any enhancement remedy, if needed,” he said.
Akbarzadeh also contacted local law enforcement for information and potential added patrols.
Good caller, hope that answers your questions.
People, it is OK to turn on red light
“Red Phone, there is a ‘stop here’ sign on the entrance to northbound U.S. 101 from Cochrane Road. It does not say, ‘no right turn on red,’ yet people insist on waiting for a green light before turning. Please help!”
Red Phone: Dear Frustrated, OK, here it is. There is no need to wait for a green light at that intersection. Come to a complete stop at this sign, make sure it’s safe to proceed then continue when clear.
Hope that helps, good caller.
