Won’t you blow your horn… a little softer?
My concern is with the trains that go through the downtown area here late at night after quiet hours. Some of these train drivers blow their horns to the extreme as they go through town. With this hot weather many people leave their windows open at night to conserve energy. It keeps waking me up all night long. Is there some way we can get a hold of Union Pacific or find out what the code is on that and why they got to blow their horns so loud?
Train horns are required by law for safety reasons, however, residents may apply to have a “quiet zone” established that will restrict horn blowing all day or during twilight hours. The process is rather lengthy and the residents must work with the city, Union Pacific and the Federal Railroad Administration. New gates and lights must be installed and the crossings must be evaluated for safety. It is also not cheap: Improving the crossings can run hundreds of thousands of dollars. Community members can send inquiries to UP’s public projects department for assistance, said Mark Davis, UP’s regional director of public affairs. Who steals a shoe? Honestly!
Hello Red Phone: Just venting about something that happened at the Aquatics Center.
I had my daughter’s birthday party there a couple of weeks ago, and it was great. But at the end of the day, two pairs of the kids shoes had disappeared. Since everyone leaves their shoes at their tables while they swim I figured they were safe. Obviously not. I am having a hard time believing that someone actually stole them, because, come on – who steals shoes? That’s just disgusting. But what else could have happened? Did someone think it would be funny to make two little girls walk barefoot across a hot parking lot? Ha, ha real funny. I suppose someone could have picked them up by mistake; although, I would think they would have realized that they were picking up two extra pairs of shoes. And even if you somehow got them home, would you not figure out what had happened, and at that point take them back to where you got them? I certainly would have. We went back to the Aquatics Center several times to check their lost and found, hoping someone had returned them, but no such luck.
Anyway, thanks for listening. And parents: Watch out for shoe thieves!!
One thing’s for sure, the shoes just didn’t walk off by themselves. Red Phone called Aquatics Center Manager Dick Busse who said stolen shoes are a rarity and he believes it was an isolated incident. He said there have been some thefts at the center, namely some kids police apprehended who were rummaging through purses that, but it’s the first he’s heard of shoe thefts. Busse added if the shoes want to hot-step it back to the Aquatics Center, the lost and found is on the pool deck and there’s no questions asked.
