Red Phone’s back on the attack again this week, enjoying a new found popularity amongst our readers. If you’ve got a comment or complaint, don’t delay to put the Crimson Crusader to work by calling 779-4106 ext. 206 or e-mail re******@*************es.com. For all the readers who’ve contacted Red Phone recently, hang in there – we’ve heard you and are working on an answer.

Computer Confusion

“I’ve been trying to get an article and download it on my computer. Last week I went in three times and you gave me three different passwords. But none of them have worked. I am a subscriber, but for some reason I can’t get in. I need help.”

Red Phone

Ever since the Morgan Hill Times made our Web site exclusively for subscribers, there have been a few problems with access by some readers. Usually the problems occur on the reader’s computer and this case is a perfect example. The subscriber was trying to log onto the Web site using his name when the account was created by his wife. A simple solution to a frustrating problem. Don’t forget we’re here to help. If you have trouble logging in, please call the Morgan Hill Times Customer Service Center at (408) 842-2327.

Let Freedom Ring

“I get a kick out of this Red Phone stuff. Never called before. In the Jan. 14-16 edition you ran the story ‘Confessions of a Shooter.’ My message to John Kahn is good for him. He is practicing his Second Amendment rights as a citizen. I understand the gun grabbers would love to go and take his guns away. Quite frankly, I think the sound of gunfire in the distance is the sound of freedom.

So John Kahn, good for you. Keep shooting up, and keep your aim true. All the complainers and whiners on the Red Phone, sorry.”

Red Phone

There you have it, but don’t really shoot up, John. Remember what goes up must come down eventually. And, Red Phone did make sure this caller is not on the National Rifle Association’s payroll.

From One Plinker to Another

“I just read your article ‘Confessions of a Shooter.’ This was interesting to me, because I’m a fellow ‘plinker’ like Mr. Khan, and I’ve been listening to him for about three months now, shoot his firearms behind my neighborhood, Shadowbrook Way.

I’m guessing by Johns comments, he’s here to stay, no matter what anyone says to him. I do understand his frustration with just wanting to shoot and not having to pay gun range fees.

My questions to the Crimson Crusader is, is there any public land near Morgan Hill, where plinkers like John Khan & myself can discharge firearms legally? I’ve had to travel three and half hours into the San Benito mountains to accomplish this. Thanks in advance for all your investigative help!”

Red Phone

No need to travel to the remote areas of San Benito and risk being attacked by turkey vultures. Here are some places to “plink” away if you don’t have connections to private, non-incorporated land in Santa Clara County as John does.

If you’re just interested in clays and skeets, you can check out the Coyote Valley Sporting Clays range at 1000 San Bruno Ave. in Morgan Hill. But there are no free ranges there. For non-shotgun shooters, there is the Santa Clara County Field Sport Park off of Bailey.

They have ranges of 50 and 100 yards. Shooters can bring their own non silohette targets or purchase targets there.

There are also places such as the San Jose Municipal Firing Range (275-1738) or Reed’s Indoor Range in Santa Clara (970-9870). A list of other places in the county to shoot can be found at www.bayprofs.org/Places_to_Shoot_Santa_Clar.html.

Readers, do you know of another spot in Santa Clara to shoot? If so, feel free to give the Red Phone a call at 779-4106 ext. 206.
