An errant dash of “unseasonably cool” showers, possible hail and thunderstorms for northern and central California may intermittently pop up Saturday night and last until early Sunday morning, according to a special statement released by the National Weather Service today.

According to the NWS there should be a break in the wet weather later Sunday morning, but “more offshore showers and possible thunderstorms with small hail will be possible throughout Sunday as the cold and unstable airmass passes overhead.”

It’s timely for Morgan Hill, which threw a successful No Bull BBQ that drew thousands under clear skies and mild temperatures. But it’s an untimely newsflash given that Sunday is Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero Day, a party thrown in honor of Gilroy’s world famous boxing champ. The event is scheduled from 12 to 6 p.m. on Fifth Street.

The storm could drop .25-inch of rain on Morgan Hill, with highs Saturday in the mid-60s, lows in the high-40s, according to Chris Stumps, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service out of Monterey. Sunday will be cooler, with highs about 60.

Another round of rain could hit the region Tuesday.

“Ten to 15 years ago it was unusual (to get rain in May),” Stumps said. “But the last couple of years, it’s not that unusual.”
