NOT A PARKING LOT

I have been a resident of the Madrone area for a long time.
Driving into Morgan Hill along Monterey Highway I see a lot of big
rig trucks parked along the side of the road between Peebles and
Burnett avenues, especially in the evenings and on the
weekends.
NOT A PARKING LOT

“I have been a resident of the Madrone area for a long time. Driving into Morgan Hill along Monterey Highway I see a lot of big rig trucks parked along the side of the road between Peebles and Burnett avenues, especially in the evenings and on the weekends. Are there any laws to stop the truckers from using Monterey Highway as a parking lot? This turns the entrance to our city into an eye sore. I would appreciate any information on this matter.”

RED PHONE:

Red phone knows this is a serious matter, especially on Monterey Highway. The city of Morgan has a vehicle abatement law which restricts oversized vehicles from parking on the side of Monterey Highway. The law states that an oversized vehicle cannot park or drive between Peebles and Burnett avenues. The only time an oversized vehicle can park on this stretch is when it is loading or unloading goods. A vehicle is considered “oversized” if it weighs more than 10,000 pounds. If you happen to notice trucks parked in the stretch of restricted area, call the Morgan Hill police non-emergency line at (408) 779-2101.

DOOR HANGERS ARE A NUISANCE

“Today we had three door hangers on our door at our house. My question is: does the city permit these unsolicited offers to appear? If so, why? We live on a corner and those papers are like a flag that says, ‘No one is at home!'”

RED PHONE:

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to stop mail soliciting. The city of Morgan Hill has an ordinance that retricts “direct” soliciting to homes. However, it does not restrict soliciting by mail (or in your case, by doorknob.) For more information you can contact the city’s code enforcement office at 779-7241. You can also file a complaint online visiting the city’s Web site, www.morgan-hill.ca.gov/html/citysvc/comm/complaint.asp.

VERIZON CORRECTION

RED PHONE:

It appears that Red Phone was wrong when investigating the timeframe for when Verizon’s FIOS television and Internet service will come to Morgan Hill. Last week Red Phone reported that it will come at the end of the year while Verizon scans for an area in the South Valley to dig to make way for a FIOS server. According to Verizon Morgan Hill manager Dave Moore the FIOS service will not be available in Morgan Hill for several years. In order to get FIOS service, fiber-optic cable would need to be installed in every home of Morgan Hill, taking several years to complete. The Red Phone apologizes for the error.
