Pride 12U claims Vallejo tournament championship
VALLEJO – The Pride 12U Green team traveled to Vallejo on June 21-22 and came home the champions of the tourney. The girls won all six games they played demonstrating their ability to pull together as a team and stay on top of their game.
Pride 5, Sizzle 4
In a close match, the Pride was able to keep the Sizzle from getting too hot. Jenna Robertson struck out four batters and was supported by a strong defensive effort. Robin Nelson consistently made contact with the ball and went 3-for-3. Tanya Ferry laid down a perfect bunt to advance the runners and get them into scoring position. Angelica Michel had a single in the first inning and a triple in the fourth inning to score the winning run.
Pride 13, Crushers 0
Game two started with JC Clayton on the mound and Kourtney Kientzy behind the plate. Defensively, the Pride girls were hot. Clayton kept the Crushers in check. She had three strikeouts and no walks.
Ally Barsanti hit a nice slap bunt. Other singles were hit by Brooke Willis, Kientzy, Clayton, Vanessa Santoya and Ferry. Willis also hit a double and had a RBI. The game ended when Kientzy, behind the plate, threw out the runner trying to steal second.
Pride 9, Hot Tamales 2
The Pride kept the Hot Tamales cool during game three. Both teams went three up and three down during the first inning.
And in the second inning, both teams scored a run. However, in the third inning, Angelica Michel started a two-out rally, and the Pride scored seven runs.
Santoya was outstanding on the mound, striking out seven of the Hot Tamales. Santoya, Mary Luna, Nelson, Ferry and Barsanti had RBIs.
Pride 6, Hurricane 1
Robertson, on the mound, struck out two batters and fielded four outs. Shayna Osuna made a great throw down to second from behind the plate to get the runner trying to steal second. Osuna also laid down a beautiful bunt to get on base. Clayton, Nelson, Michel, Willis and Barsanti had single hits.
Pride 4, Sizzle 0
The Pride girls were on fire as they kept the Sizzle from getting on the scoreboard. Clayton struck out four of the fourteen batters. Clayton also hit two singles. Kourtney Kientzy hit two singles and had a RBI. Willis had three singles and had an RBI.
Willis also made an outstanding play in the outfield. In the last inning, she caught a fly ball in right field to make the second out and then threw the ball to first to get the third out.
Pride 5, Twisters 4
The Pride won a close championship game. During the first inning, the Pride set down East Valley in order. Nelson and Michel hit singles. In the top of the second inning the Twisters scored three runs and then added another run in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Pride was able to make it a new game. Barsanti got things going with a terrific slap bunt, and then she stole second.
Ferry then hit a single that brought Barsanti home. Once again, neither team scored in the sixth.
Defensively in fifth inning, Kientzy made a nice play from first base. A runner was on base and attempted to steal second, but Kientzy threw to second baseman Clayton, tagged the runner out.
Things got exciting in the bottom of the seventh. Osuna got on base with a walk and then she stole second. Bersanti hit a single and advanced the runner. Santoya hit the ball to the outfield to allow Osuna to tag up and score.
With two runners on base, Clayton hit a home run to give the Pride the win.
