The Pride’s 16U team played six games in the Morgan Hill
Slugfest and finished third in a field of 10 teams. All games were

In the Friday evening match, the Pride tied the Cabrillo Crushers, who they had faced earlier in the season. Only Alyssa Adamo and Jackie Tennant had hits for the Pride.
Several players like Kaitlin McHargue, Katie Hillman and Julie Jacobson had key sacrifices to move the runners over. Cristina Sanidad had two walks in the game, and Samantha Ferry also walked. Kaitlyn Rauschnot pitched, and catching duties were handled by both Ferry and Nicole Clay.
In the second game in the heat of the day, Sanidad took the mound with Clay behind the plate. Hillman hit a triple to score an RBI.
Catalina Rawers, Sanidad, Clay and McHargue also added singles. Eileen Grove had a walk in the third to keep the scoring alive. But the Mt. View Nova came back in the six inning to score five runs to win 6-3.
Saturday night’s game was a hitting fest for the Pride team. In the second inning, Tennant hit, Grove walked, and Clay singled to load the bases. Ferry then singled to score two runs.
In the third inning, Hillman got on with an error, Rauschnot singled, Tennant had a sac fly to score Hillman and Grove was safe on an error. Clay tripled to score another.
Later in the game, Jacobson reached base on an error, Hillman and Rauschnot added hits. In the sixth inning, the Pride scored again with McHargue’s lead off single, Ferry’s sacrifice, and Rawers’ double to score Clay.
With two outs in the seventh inning, Sanidad hit a long home run to the opposite field to make the score 7-2. Defensively, the team played outstanding. Rauschnot was on the mound with Ferry behind the plate. They combined for six strikeouts. Second baseman Grove and shortstop Rawers combined for a nice double play in the fifth inning to end a scoring threat. Jacobson made a nice catch in right and threw to first base to keep the runners off.
The Pride team was third in pool play entering Sunday’s games. Against the Monterey Lightning, Sanidad started on the mound, and Rauschnot came in to relieve. They combined for six strikeouts in the game. The game went to International Tie Breaker due to time and Rauschnot shut them down 1-2-3, stranding the runner on second.
Offensively, the Pride hat 10 hits. Sanidad and HIllman each had two hits. Adamo, Rauschnot, Tennant and Clay moved the runners over with great bunts. The Pride team moved on with an exciting 2-1 win.
The second game on Sunday was against the Kryptonite, who defeated the Pride earlier in the year. This time, the team stepped up and played its best game of the season. The Pride got things started in the fourth inning. Rauschnot lead off with a double. Rawers doubled, Grove singled, and Tennant singled to score Rawers. The Pride was down 3-1.
In the fifth and sixth innings, Sanidad, Hillman and Rawers added a few more singles, but they were stranded on base. In the top of the seventh, the Pride was still down.
Clay and Adamo both singled. Sanidad came up and had an awesome double to center field to score both Clay and Adamo. Then Hillman added her own double to score Sanidad. Rawers reached base on errors to score Hillman and make the score 5-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Kryptonite got within one run, but that was all they would get
In the hot afternoon game against the Mountain View Nova, Adamo began the game with a nice hit to center. Ann Baumgardner moved her over with a perfect sac bunt.
But it would end there as no one else reached base until the fourth inning. Sanidad had a hit, but was also left standing. Adamo added a hit in the sixth. In the top of the seventh, the Pride was still down 1-0. Rauschnot started things off with a nice hit to right. Grove did her part and singled to move over Rauschnot. The Mountain View Nova moved on to the championship game.
The SJ Sizzle team took the championship over the Mt. View Nova with a 1-0 win in extra innings.
