The 12-year-old Pride C Team is on a mission to win, to learn and to have fun doing so.

Since forming in May the team has played in five tournaments and has qualified to go to the California State Western Regional Championships, also known as the Division C Regional All Star championships in San Diego.

After winning the Salinas Storm Pre-qualifier tournament June 15-17, they came in fifth out of 18 teams at the NorCal Championships June 22-24 in Sunnyvale to qualify for San Diego.

The team will travel to San Diego to compete in the Western Regional Championships July 13-15.

Coach Chris Putney, said this is the first time in many years that Pride has qualified for this State Championship.

Having to play an extra game in the Nor-Cal Championships, the Pride 12-and-under Gold team was all the talk amongst tournament spectators.

Beginning at noon and returning again at 8pm, they won both games by scores of 15-1 and 8-5, respectively.

In the 8-5 win, Shannen Green went 4-4 at the plate and made outstanding plays at third base, and Crystal Rock hit a three-run homerun to secure the win for Pride 12-and-under Gold.

Terrific pitching by Jessica Post as well as Rock kept them in all their games.

The Pride moved on Saturday night with a 12-5 win over a tough Pleasanton Phantom team, with strong play again by Crystal Rock and a solid catching and hitting performance from Kim George.

The Pride returned Sunday for the semi-finals and came up short with 5-1 loss to the Santa Cruz Mountain Dream who they had previously beaten Friday night.

The Pride 12-an-under Gold placed fifth overall out of 18 teams from Northern California, securing a spot in San Diego for the California Olympic State Games July 13-15.

10 and under

In the 10 and under age division, both the 10 and under Green and Gold teams began play on June 22 and played late into the weekend.

Although the 10 and under Gold came up short for qualifying further, the 10 and under Green team had a terrific weekend and won a berth to the ASA B division Regional Championship in Fairfield on July 6-8, with a chance of moving on to the ASA 10 and under B division Nationals.

The team was led by strong pitching of Olivia Vukcevich and Erica Ramirez.

In a come from behind victory Pride 10 and under Green scored 11 runs in their last at bat to win 13-8, with strong hitting performances by Hannah Doting, Lauren Putney, Brooke and Briana Swan and Breanna Sabala.
