Lady Acorns, Bulldogs host top two soccer teams in Mount

The Live Oak basketball season is far from over.

The Acorns picked up much-needed wins over Lick on the boys and girls side last week to pull into the middle tier of the West Valley Division. Both teams are 3-4 in league and can become eligible for the Central Coast Section playoffs by winning four of their final seven games.

The Live Oak boys escaped San Jose with a 57-53 win Thursday behind a season-high 17 points by Austin Carvalho. Matt Levy and Eddie Plascencia added 12 points apiece to help the Acorns overcome an early deficit.

Live Oak will try for its first home win at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Yerba Buena.

Friday, Fa Saulala hauled in 12 points,15 rebounds and two blocks for the Lady Acorns, who have won consecutive games for the first time since Dec. 16-19, 2009.

Live Oak also received seven points from Anisha Patel and five points and six steals from Meghan Perez.

Today, the Acorns host Willow Glen, which beat Live Oak 39-38 in overtime Jan. 4.

Morgan Hill becomes the epicenter of Mount Hamilton Division girls soccer when the third-place Acorns and fourth-place Bulldogs host Santa Teresa and Leigh, the last two undefeated teams in the league, at 3:15 p.m. today. The Saints and Longhorns lead the local teams by less than a game.

The Sobrato and Live Oak boys gained dual ownership of first place in the Santa Teresa Division on Friday after the Bulldogs sprinted by Westmont 2-0, and the Acorns beat second-place Branham 2-1. The local teams are on the road Wednesday at Oak Grove and Santa Teresa, respectively.
