Live Oak’s Rick secures fifth CCS-qualifying time

The scored was tied 3-all until the eight inning when Sobrato put three runs across.
The Bulldogs are now tied with Santa Teresa for second place in the Mount Hamilton Division at 5-6 overall and 5-3 in league. Those two will begin a key two-game stretch this week at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in San Jose.

Fifth CCS time for Rick
Though she was edged out by teammate Michelle Mikaelsson for first place, Katie Rick’s 100-yard breaststroke during Thursday’s dual against Pioneer and Leland was enough for the Live Oak senior to collect a fifth Central Coast Section-qualifying standard this season.
Rick touched in one minute, 10.94 seconds — five tenths behind Mikaelsson — at Live Oak High School and is now eligable to swim in three individual events this postseason (200-yard individual medley, 100-yard freestyle, 100 breaststroke), plus the 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays.
“It’s what we’ve come to expect from Katie. She can swim any event,” LOHS girls coach Lynn Gautschi said Friday. “She’ll qualify as part of our (200-yard freestyle relay), too. We just haven’t tried yet.”
Mikaelsson and Rachel Cretcher, two of Rick’s relaymates, also have already clinched CCS berths in multiple events. Cretcher has qualified in the 100 and 200 freestyle, and Mikaelsson the 100-yard butterfly and 100 breastroke. Both have met the 500-yard freestyle standard as well.
Senior Sarah D’Angelo, the fourth relay member, is close to making it in the 100-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle.
