MORGAN HILL
As tough as Thursday’s 1-0 overtime loss to Monta Vista was for Live Oak field hockey, the Acorns could be back on top in the Santa Teresa Division as early as Tuesday — when they visit undefeated Cupertino.
Live Oak (2-1 league) first has to get past Leland (2-1), starting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Morgan Hill.
The Acorns took care of business Tuesday against visiting St. Ignatius, winning 2-1 on goals by Kirsten Doting and Danielle Horning. Doting scored on the first half on a corner play, taking a crisp feed from Michael Swensen, and Horning netted the game-winner five minutes into the second half, playing a pass from Anisha Patel in front of the net.
Live Oak coach Gina Sanders likes the way her team has responded from the loss to Monta Vista.
“We weren’t focused like we needed to be,” she said. “I’d rather have that learning experience now than late in the season.”
CROSS COUNTRY
Sobrato’s Ryan Corvese placed second overall in Tuesday’s Santa Teresa Division meet at Montgomery Hill but could not lift the Bulldogs past Westmont.
Corvese covered the 2.74-mile course in 15 minutes, 58 seconds, garnishing a 30-21 loss that dropped the Bulldogs to 1-2 in league.
Westmont edged Sobrato, 28-27, on the girls side as well. The Lady Bulldogs fell to 0-3.
