Led by Van Aken, Acorns explode for seven runs in final

SAN JOSE
The Acorns earned their second win in nine games Wednesday behind a solid afternoon by pitcher Cody Van Aken. The senior had two hits, an RBI and worked a seven-hitter as Live Oak pulled into a three-way tie for sixth place in the Mount Hamilton Division.
Rich Martinez and Jalen Salazar doubled with two RBIs, and Aiden Styczynski drove in two runs for the Acorns (6-9, 3-8), who scored seven runs in the final inning. Dominic Bejarano added two hits, and John Forestieri batted three for four.
The defending champion Chargers (4-9, 3-8) dropped into a three-way tie with Live Oak and Branham for sixth place.
SHS 6, Branham 5
The Bulldogs snapped a six-game slide Wednesday and moved within three games of the fourth playoff spot in the Mount Hamilton Division.
Sobrato (5-8, 4-8) was coming off an 8-3 loss to Santa Teresa in which Tim Giles went two for three, and Tyler Lerma scored, singled and had an RBI.
SOFTBALL
Statistics are still coming in, but Sobrato trounced Del Mar 10-0 Monday in Santa Teresa Division play.
Live Oak lost 11-0 to Leland on Tuesday and 3-0 to Leigh on Wednesday in the Mount Hamilton Division.
BADMINTON
Sobrato continued to make headway in the West Valley Division on March 31 with a 9-6 victory over Lick.
For the Bulldogs (5-1), Anthony Langga defeated Henry Nguyen 15-10, 15-6; Sagir Kadiwala and Quang Tran outlasted T.J. Sanchez and Johnathan Velasco 15-11, 5-15, 15-10 in boys doubles; Harsimran Gill and Caitlin Colladay beat Sherry Duong and Kiran Kaur 11-15, 15-8, 15-6 in girls doubles; and Marcus Pereira and Megan Langga triumphed over Jose Oliviera and Mariela Hernandez 15-13, 15-7 in mixed doubles.
