SALINAS — The Live Oak Acorns limped into last week’s break from league play and came out looking ready for a stretch run.

Jakob Conlan finessed his way through seven steady innings, Ryan Hennings doubled and drove in three runs, and Rich Martinez scored twice to go with two hits Thursday as the Acorns earned their third straight victory in as many day, 4-2, at North Salinas.

A 3-0 week — complete with a thrilling win over rival Gilroy -– was just what Live Oak needed following a 4-8 start in Mount Hamilton Division baseball. They have a golden opportunity to build on their progress next week when the Acorns (9-9 overall) play two with eighth-place Leigh.

Live Oak’s pitching staff will be well rested thanks to Conlan (2-1). The sophomore gave up 10 hits and two walks –- but no earned runs -– in his second complete game.

North Salinas (7-10 overall, 5-5 Tri County Athletic League) built a 2-0 lead in the third inning, but the Acorns countered with three in the fourth and one for good measure in the sixth. They had eight hits.

Cody Van Aken had two singles, Ryan Muir tripled, and Dominic Bejarano drove in a run for Live Oak, which will visit Leigh on Wednesday and host Game 2 Friday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.

TRACK AND FIELD

Live Oak senior Stephanie Armstrong cleared a personal-best 5 feet, 7 inches Saturday to win the high jump title at the Mount Sac Relays in Walnut’s Hilmer Lodge Stadium.

Armstrong’s winning height is also this spring’s best mark in the Central Coast Section.
